Karen Kornhauser, Owner: Karen has been in the court reporting business a number of years now. She was born and raised in New York City, pursuing her bachelor’s degree at Long Island University in Brooklyn. In the late 1980s Karen went to work as a transcriptionist for Ginger Burns, former owner of the company then known as National Reporting Service. Then in 1996, Karen began managing the business when Ginger moved to the eastern part of the state to accept a position as an official court reporter for AOC. After Ginger’s death in 2001, Karen took over as owner and changed the business name to “Asheville Reporting Service.”

Dee Anna Michaels, CVR: Dee Anna began working as a court reporter in 1986 for Asheville Reporting Service. She is experienced in reporting in both Superior and District Courts, as well as covering depositions, hearings, and basically any facet of court reporting. She is very involved with the technological advancement of realtime voice writing in the field of court reporting. Dee Anna is an excellent legal transcriptionist, as well; she is our resident authority on anything to do with the English language, especially spelling and medical terminology. Dee Anna sets the bar for everyone else in professionalism and pride in her profession as a court reporter.

Rebecca Geldres Viehmeyer, CVR: Rebecca, who hails from Peru, has been employed as a court reporter and transcriptionist with this company since early 2000. Rebecca obtained her certification from NVRA in 2001. She is a graduate of UNCA (www.unca.edu) and was married in 2004. She is fluent in Spanish, and speaks French and some Chinese, as well. She serves as a Spanish/Engish interpreter when needed. Her easy-to-get-along-with personality and creative brightness make her an asset to the business. UPDATE: Rebecca and her husband will be moving to Fairbanks, Alaska, at the beginning of May. We hate to see her go, but we know she'll be successful at whatever she undertakes!

Mai-Beth Ketch, CVR: Originally from Denmark, Beth came to Asheville in the late nineties with her husband, Mark, and joined Asheville Reporting Service as a court reporter in 1998. She obtained her certification from NVRA in 2001. Beth is noted for her professional and personable demeanor and we value her because she is always willing to uncomplainingly go over and above her duties as a court reporter.

Charles Kornhauser: Charlie, Karen's nephew, was born in Asheville and worked as a courier in the offices of Asheville Reporting Service while attending Asheville High School. He returned to ARS several years later, in 2004, this time as a court reporter. His easygoing manner and friendly personality make him an asset to our office and to any legal proceeding he reports. Charlie is an avid sports enthusiast, playing rugby, soccer, volleyball, golf, and football. You'll often see his "best friend," his dog Mercedes, with him at various sporting events.UPDATE: Charlie has moved to Colorado to join the Colorado State Highway Patrol and is currently in their academy in Golden. His assignment will then be in Montrose, Colorado. Our loss is Colorado's gain!

Amanda Johnson: Raised in Western North Carolina, Amanda comes from a large, close-knit family. She is married to Toby and loves horseback riding and all kinds of sports. She also loves her Golden Retriever, Sadie. Amanda came to work with Asheville Reporting Service early in 2002 as a court reporter. She is also a skilled organizer and helps maintain order in the office. With Amanda’s help, we can always find what we’re looking for.

Ed Diez: Ed joined the Asheville Reporting Staff in 2005 as our "production man." He takes care of getting transcripts out once they've been prepared and plays a very important role in the whole process. He is originally from Argentina, but has lived in Asheville for a number of years now. Ed speaks English, Spanish, and understands some Italian, and adds to the international flavor of our office. His organizational skills contribute to the smooth operation of our office.

Aubrey Haslow: Aubrey is finishing up her studies at UNC-A while working full-time for ARS as a court reporter and transcriptionist. She's also a newlywed! Once she walks in the door and sits down at her computer, it's easy to forget she's here because she's such a hard worker -- and so quiet! Her pleasant personality and excellent work ethics make working with her a pleasure.

Magdalena (Maggie) Watkins: Maggie is the newest addition to the ARS staff, just joining us in February of 2008. Maggie has extensive legal background, having worked for several attorneys in different capacities in the Greensboro and Asheville areas. She is originally from Mexico, but has lived here in the States for the last 20 years. She is fluent in English and Spanish. Maggie and her husband, Andrew, and their dog, Oliver, live in East Asheville and they are particularly active in the Spanish community.

In Memory of Ginger Burns (1960-2000)

Ginger founded National Reporting Service, as ARS was formerly known, in 1983, after graduating college and then court reporting school in Florida. In 1996 she moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, and took a job as an official court reporter for the NC Administrative Office of the Courts, and worked in that capacity up until her untimely death from cancer in 2000, at the young age of 40. She was a wonderful employer and a good friend.
